Speak Up, a free week-long public speaking and debate camp, provides students opportunities to hone research and argumentation skills, build confidence, and master public speaking and persuasion. With individualized guidance, kids will work on informative and persuasive public speaking through drills and engaging activities. At the end of the week, students will be assigned a topic to research in teams and debate with one-on-one support. No prior debate experience is necessary to participate in the camp.

Meet Your Mentors:
Viveka is a Chevy Chase Elementary CES alum and a sophomore in the STEM Magnet at Montgomery Blair High School. She has been debating competitively on the national circuit for several years and has championed tournaments, receiving multiple speaker awards. Viveka is also very interested in theater and has picked up a lot of public speaking skills from acting in theater ensembles for over 12 years. She is dedicated to making public speaking and debate accessible to everyone, as she knows the importance of starting debate early. She understands the value of mastering persuasive public speaking and the impact it has on every aspect of life.
Anushka is a junior in the STEM Magnet Program at Montgomery Blair High School. She has been debating competitively on both the county circuit and the national circuit for several years. She also currently serves as a captain of the school debate team, where she helps to lead team meetings, organize club activities, and mentor novice debaters. Anushka firmly believes that developing strong communication skills is key and that everyone can become a great speaker with guidance and practice. She looks forward to sharing her love for this activity and can’t wait to work with everyone!
