The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless has an immediate need for volunteers to prepare and/or serve meals at the Home Builders Care Assessment Center (HBCAC) in Rockville. Please promote the opportunity to students in your community. The contact is Naira Hirz at naira@mcch.net or 301-917-6658.
As a reminder, the MCPS SSL plan has made an exception for students to earn SSL hours for meal preparation in a private residence for delivery to homeless shelters. Here is a link to formula that should be followed for awarding SSL hours: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/ssl/pages/faq.aspx#191.
Our Home Builders Care Assessment Center (HBCAC) is the County’s only year-round 24/7 shelter for homeless men, serving up to 800 men annually with basic shelter needs as well as supportive services to help them ensure their experience of homelessness is brief and nonrecurring. We don’t have soup kitchen at our men’s shelter and depend on volunteers to ensure our clients get three meals a day. Now that the holidays have ended, making sure we have enough meals, especially hot dinners, during the winter season (November to March) is a challenge. Thankfully, we know we can count on friends like you to get our shelter residents through these cold winter months.
We are kindly asking for food donations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that can serve up to 200, however, we always appreciate donations of any size. We have multiple dates in February and March without any meal donations scheduled. Please see the lists below for our current meal needs.

Providing meals is a fun, fulfilling service activity for congregations, schools, businesses, community groups, families, friends, and more! Student Service Learning (SSL) hours are available for students who want to donate meals.
Please see attached meal guidelines for details about meal program and SSL hours. To schedule a meal delivery date or for more information about our meal program, please contact Naira Hirz at naira@mcch.net or 301-917-6658.
