Parents often struggle to identify and obtain the services available in Montgomery County Public Schools that will help their autistic child succeed. Partnership for Extraordinary Minds cosponsors this forum each year to empower parents to participate as equal members of their child’s IEP Team and each year we are challenged to reach the parents of more than 2,200 autistic students who are enrolled in public schools throughout the county.
Attached is an announcement for our 8th annual forum on educational services for students on the autism spectrum (both diploma and nondiploma). This FREE event will be held on Wednesday, April 13th from 6:30–9:00 p.m. at Julius West Middle School (651 Great Falls Road, Rockville, Maryland, 20850).
An introduction to autism services, presented by Phil Lynch, MCPS’ Director of Special Education, will be followed immediately by breakout sessions led by MCPS administrators and staff. This year, topics will address Elementary, Middle, and High School Services; Transition to Middle School; Technology; Developing Vocational Skills; and Career-Technology Education Programs; among others. In addition, the forum will feature two sessions for Spanish-language families.
Free child care and recreation are available for children of all abilities, ages 4 and older, but registration is required (www.xMinds.org).
I would appreciate your help telling your school community-—both parents and educators-—of this important event.
